Automatic burst grouping
Group consecutive frames into bursts, expand every frame, and browse the suggested cover. Adjust grouping or correct it with merge and split when a sequence needs your judgment.
The complete workflow
Review ranked bursts, compare close calls, and choose which photos to edit.
From card to catalog
Group a folder of photos, compare the strongest frames, and export your keepers for editing.
Open a folder and let BurstPick group and rank the frames. Expand a burst to inspect every option, or browse its suggested best frame first.
Survey a larger burst, then judge up to four finalists together. Inspect eye detail, sync pan and zoom, and crown the frame you want to keep.
Copy your keepers to a new folder with XMP sidecars, or write XMP beside the source files. Choose what ratings, labels, and keywords get written.

The details that save work
Group consecutive frames into bursts, expand every frame, and browse the suggested cover. Adjust grouping or correct it with merge and split when a sequence needs your judgment.
Export optional score bands and species tags as catalog keywords. Choose star-rating policies and preview what will be written before creating sidecars.
Choose the RAW preview or camera JPEG for reviewing paired captures. Narrow a shoot by camera, ISO, focal length, or existing keywords, and keep your RAW source for export.
Saved sessions keep your culling decisions available when you return. Move unwanted frames to your system Trash when you are ready; ranking alone does not delete them.
Pick, reject, and rate without reaching for the mouse. Review successive frames with the keyboard and use your own rating when you disagree with the ranking. Shortcut details are available in the User Manual.

Point BurstPick at a folder while your card copies in — new frames are grouped and scored as they land, and an Add chip folds them into the grid on your cue. Pause the watch any time you want the grid to hold still; resume and a one-time catch-up picks up whatever changed.
Live · new frames score as they land
Adjust scoring with presets for different goals, relative-importance sliders for the six criteria, and situational preferences like hidden-eye or high-ISO forgiveness. The grid re-ranks live as you drag — or click Calibrate from my picks and let your own keepers set the weights.

Every frame carries its per-dimension breakdown — focus, eye visibility, exposure, composition, noise, context — in the panel beside the photo. When BurstPick stars a frame as the best of its burst, you can inspect the contributing scores and choose a different keeper.
Six numbers behind every score
Survey a large burst, promote finalists, then judge two to four frames side by side. Promote changes which frame is Champion; Crown keeper marks your Pick and pins it as the burst’s best. Step between bursts without leaving Compare.
Up to 4 up · one champion
Turn on Smart Zoom to track the detail under your loupe as the subject moves between frames. Use synced pan/zoom for linked inspection, or frame each contender independently. Smart Zoom is optional and off by default.

Export configurable ratings, color labels, and keywords as XMP sidecars. Copy keepers to a new folder, or use Write XMP to Source without moving images. Sidecars from another editor are preserved; see Compatibility for the handoff steps.

Tell BurstPick which animals you photographed and it labels every scored frame against that list — 835 species to choose from, birds and mammals through reptiles, amphibians and insects, no rescan needed. Correct any tag with a right-click, and turn tags into catalog keywords for filtering in compatible catalogs.

Correct automatic grouping when needed. Merge over-split sequences with one key, split a burst at any frame, and hand-edited bursts lock to preserve your grouping during rescans.

Understand the suggestion
Read each criterion separately. Change their relative importance, use a preset, or calibrate from your picks. The overall score is a starting point for review.
Sharpness in the detected subject region.
Eye visibility and detail, with dedicated wildlife and bird eye models.
Brightness and clipping in the image preview, with subject and scene context.
Subject placement and space around it.
Image noise assessed with ISO-aware preferences.
How the subject reads within its environment.
Wildlife and bird photography are the core use case. Tiny or hidden eyes, unusual poses, and busy scenes can challenge detection. Composition is partly taste, and a technically lower-ranked frame may still be your favorite.
People are recognized as subjects as of v1.12.0, but dedicated human eye detection is not available. Eye Visibility cannot reliably distinguish open and closed human eyes. Try your own photographs before relying on rankings outside wildlife.
Scoring uses image previews; it is not a RAW-development test of how much highlight detail your editor can recover. BurstPick is a culling tool, with export and metadata handoff, rather than a replacement for an editor or catalog.
