People as subjects (v1.12.0)

People can now provide a subject region for focus, exposure, composition, and context scoring. Dedicated human eye detection is not available yet; Eye Visibility is less informative on people.

Species tagging

Tell BurstPick which animals you photographed and it labels every already-scored frame against that list — 835 species, birds and mammals through reptiles, amphibians and insects, no rescan. Correct a tag with a right-click, on one photo or a whole selection, and write the tags into your catalog as keywords.

Control over what the sidecar says

Choose which photos get a star rating in the XMP sidecar, and see a live "What gets written" preview of the rating and label before anything is written. Write XMP to Source now covers a photo you have not exported, too.

Compare — Champion & Contenders

Side-by-side culling: hold a growing set of up to four frames with one gold champion, and promote a challenger the moment it wins. An always-present Survey/Judge toggle switches between the wall of candidates and an N-way scorecard, and Shift with an arrow key steps to the next burst without backing out.

Smart Zoom

Synced zoom that re-finds the subject in every frame of the burst, so the eye stays under the loupe as you step through — even when the animal moves across the frame.

Export scores as catalog keywords

Each criterion can be written into its own keyword — Focus, the overall score, the pick flag, the burst winner — so compatible catalogs can filter and organize them instead of squeezing six criteria into five stars. Off by default; hierarchical, flat, or both.

Sidecars for darktable and digiKam

XMP sidecars can now use the whole-filename convention those apps look for, alongside the Lightroom one.

Intel Mac support

Intel Macs get their own download, with AI scoring working rather than silently falling back.

Manual burst merge & split

The #1 request. Combine bursts the detector over-split, or break one apart at the frame you choose — and your edits survive a rescan instead of quietly reverting.

Filter by keyword

Filter the grid by the IPTC/XMP keywords already on your files, alongside the existing camera, ISO, and focal-length filters.

Clear rejects straight from the grid or lightbox — recoverable in your OS Trash, with sidecars and stacked JPEGs going along with them.

Live folder watch, with pause/resume

Point BurstPick at a folder while your card copies in; new frames group and score as they land. Pause the watch when you want the grid to hold still.

Eye sharpness and catchlight scoring tuned for birds — including in-flight frames where the eye is small and the background is busy.
